SIRET Requirements per Location (France)

How to work with Siret and locations in Comply

French law requires every physical establishment that sells directly to the public to have its own registered SIRET. This means each Shopify POS location must be configured with a unique SIRET in Comply. The same SIRET cannot be shared across multiple locations.

What counts as a location that needs to be registered in Comply? Only locations operating as a physical point of sale are subject to NF525 and need to be registered. Warehouses, offices, or any space not used for direct retail do not need to be configured in Comply.

Using Shopify POS for inventory management or other operational purposes does not exempt a location from this requirement. Any use of Shopify POS in France requires Comply to be installed and configured with a valid SIRET, regardless of whether payments are processed. As a certified NF525 provider, Comply is required to block all non-compliant transactions.

Legal basis

This requirement comes from two complementary frameworks:

  • French commercial law: each physical establishment, whether primary, secondary, or complementary, is an independent registered entity with its own SIRET. More information at service-public.fr.

  • NF525 standard: cash register software must record transactions using the SIRET of the establishment where the sale takes place. Each selling location must be configured with its own identifier. See France-specific requirements in the Shopify Help Center.

How to request a new SIRET

To register a new location, follow the official procedure to declare a secondary establishment at entreprendre.service-public.gouv.fr.

Recommendations

If you have doubts about your specific situation, consult a legal or tax advisor. Non-compliance with NF525 may result in penalties during a tax audit.

Comply does not report anything to French tax authorities, as NF525 does not require it. What Comply does is process and store transaction data securely, supporting the generation and export of a tax archive on demand. To learn more, see Generating a Tax Archive.
