TicketBAI and Comply: Everything You Need to Know to Adapt Your Point of Sale

What TicketBAI is, who it affects in the Basque Country, and how Comply handles it at your Shopify POS.

Written by Alvaro

If you sell with Shopify POS in the Basque Country, your point of sale must comply with TicketBAI, the invoicing control system of the Basque Regional Tax Authorities (Haciendas Forales). Comply ensures full compliance automatically, without changing the way you sell.

What Is TicketBAI?

TicketBAI is the invoicing control system of the Basque Regional Tax Authorities (Álava, Gipuzkoa, and Bizkaia). It ensures the traceability of every invoice or receipt through an electronic signature, a TBAI identifier, and a QR code, and submits the data to the relevant Regional Tax Authority.

Who Does It Affect?

TicketBAI affects self-employed individuals, professionals, and businesses carrying out an economic activity in the Basque Country, regardless of size or sector.

Each Regional Tax Authority manages its own system with its own specific requirements. In Bizkaia, for example, TicketBAI is part of the Batuz programme, which also includes the Economic Operations Register (LROE).

Is It Mandatory?

Yes. Unlike Verifactu, which comes into effect in 2027, TicketBAI is already mandatory throughout the Basque Country. If you carry out an economic activity in Álava, Gipuzkoa, or Bizkaia, your invoicing system must comply from day one of your activity.

What Changes in Your Day-to-Day

With TicketBAI, every receipt or invoice you issue must include:

  • An electronic signature, QR code, and TBAI identifier.

  • Submission of the data to the relevant Regional Tax Authority, within the deadline required by your territory.

TicketBAI has no connection to the AEAT: each Regional Tax Authority manages its own system, independent of Verifactu and SII.

Comply handles all of this transparently. Shopify POS receipts are automatically brought into line with the TicketBAI standard without any changes to your sales workflow.

What Comply Does for You

Comply, developed by DAP Consulting SL, is registered in the TicketBAI certified software registry and meets all the technical requirements the regulation imposes on invoicing software:

  • Protects your data: no one can modify it once it has been issued.

  • Electronically signs every invoice or receipt and includes the mandatory TBAI identifier and QR code.

  • Submits the records to the relevant Regional Tax Authority.

  • Exports data for tax inspections or audits.

All you need to do is connect Comply to your Shopify POS account and set up your tax details.

TicketBAI and Your Online Sales

Comply handles TicketBAI exclusively at your physical point of sale with Shopify POS. Your online store sales are outside its scope: the order confirmation Shopify generates is not an invoice and, as such, is not subject to TicketBAI.

However, your online sales may give rise to other tax obligations related to TicketBAI. Since neither Shopify nor Comply handles the fiscalisation of online sales, if you have any questions about how to manage them, check with your tax advisor.
